Wild Sunflower Chosen as the Symbol of Da Lat Flower Festival 2024

According to the organizers, the opening ceremony and the entire Da Lat Flower Festival 2024 will feature the wild sunflower dalat, a flower characteristic of Lam Dong, as the main artistic and musical motif to express the central theme.

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM – November 7, 2024 – This afternoon, the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province held a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City to introduce the 10th edition of the Da Lat Flower Festival, themed “Da Lat Flower – A Symphony of Colors.” The event aims to promote and attract investment in the tourism and service sectors.

Da Lat Flower Festival 2024 to Feature 53 Vibrant Programs

The festival will showcase 53 diverse programs, including 10 main events such as the opening and closing ceremonies, an international seminar titled “Da Lat Develops Green Tourism and Cultural Industry from Biodiversity Resources and Local Culture,” a “Wine – Tea – Coffee and Specialty Street” featuring local products of Da Lat and Lam Dong, and a “Flower and Heritage Street Carnival” with flower-themed floats, fashion shows, and street performances.

Notably, Lam Dong Province will not utilize the state budget to organize the Da Lat Flower Festival this year. Instead, the festival programs will be hosted by businesses, organizations, associations, and individuals. This approach ensures that the festival’s offerings, both tangible and intangible, will have lasting value.

Mr. Pham S, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province, stated that the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival continues to affirm Da Lat as Vietnam’s City of Flower Festivals. It is not only a celebration for the people of Lam Dong but also a gathering place for domestic and international tourists to experience the unique cultural and tourism values of Da Lat.

The event continues to affirm and honor the values of flowers and floriculture in Da Lat, creating opportunities for those who grow, produce, and trade flowers, vegetables, and specialty agricultural products in Lam Dong to exchange ideas and develop their industries in the trend of international integration, green and sustainable development.

Sharing more about the tourism potential of Lam Dong province, Mr. S said that Da Lat possesses ideal green landscapes for tourism development, especially in pioneering agricultural tourism since 2015. To date, the province has 37 agricultural tourism sites, including three that have met international standards.

“With the two criteria of welcoming 500,000 visitors/year and generating revenue of about 500,000 USD/year, the three agricultural tourism sites in Lam Dong have not only met but also exceeded the set criteria with 1.2 – 1.5 million visitors/year, and revenue from 70 to 80 billion VND,” said Mr. S.

Regarding flowers, the Da Lat flower industry has a total value of 3,000 billion VND, and in recent years, flower exports have reached about 65 million USD. However, during the past time, the flower industry has not developed in a balanced way between potted flowers and cut flowers. Currently, the province has oriented and proceeded to develop both potted flowers and cut flowers in parallel. To date, the area of flower production of all kinds is over 10,000 hectares with a total output of 4 billion flower branches and over 500,000 flower pots.

“Notably, there’s the Phalaenopsis orchid. In the world, Japan is the country that uses it the most; the country and territory that produces the most Phalaenopsis orchids is Taiwan (China) with over 700 companies. The highest and most sustainable yield of Phalaenopsis orchids is in Duc Trong and Di Linh districts, Lam Dong province. Therefore, during this Festival, we are organizing a contest to select individuals and artisans with the most beautiful flower arrangements, thereby promoting the image of Lam Dong artisans,” said Mr. S

Wild Sunflower Chosen as the Symbol Throughout Da Lat Flower Festival

Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, said that a new feature of the Da Lat Flower Festival 2024 is that it will be held for nearly a month (December 5th to 31st) with a variety of activities, but without ostentation or formality, and avoiding waste.

“During the opening ceremony as well as throughout the Festival, we plan to choose the wild sunflower, a flower characteristic of Da Lat – Lam Dong, as a symbol to express the main theme,” said Mr. Kien.

Tourism and accommodation service businesses have committed to not increasing prices. Mr. Kien said that the province currently has 3,178 tourist accommodation establishments with a total of 40,644 rooms. Currently, these units are renovating and completing their facilities, and improving service quality to serve tourists during the festival.

“In parallel with the direction of the province and Da Lat city, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is encouraging all tourist areas, accommodation businesses, and restaurants to maintain stable prices, launch new products and tours, and increase quality without increasing prices to attract visitors to Lam Dong during this time,” said Mr. Kien.

According to Mr. Kien, there may be localized price increases during peak season. However, in general, this will not affect the goals of the Da Lat Flower Festival. The Festival is expected to welcome about 2 million tourists, including 60,000 international visitors. The estimated revenue is 3,600 billion VND, with an average spending of 1.8 million VND per tourist.

Moreover, this year’s Dalat Flower Festival 2024 will be held for nearly a month, with over 50 programs and exciting activities taking place almost every day. Therefore, tourists can refer to information on various media channels to choose their preferred programs before coming to Lam Dong.

Furthermore, to ensure environmental hygiene, landscape preservation, security, and order, the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province has issued a decision to establish six committees, including a Security Committee. This committee will be responsible for ensuring the safety of visitors to the festival, contributing to the overall success of the Flower Festival.
